“The Greens will move a bill in Parliament for a 12-month moratorium on coal seam gas, and a prohibition of coal seam gas extraction in the Sydney Metropolitan Area,” Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham said.
Mr Buckingham said that the issues of major concern surrounding coal seam gas (CSG) exploration, as raised by the Greens, are:
- Potential gas leaks
- Chemicals used in the fracking process
- The safe disposal of waste water and bi-product.
The bill will be deliberated upon in Parliament over the next few weeks.
