The Casino to Ipswich pipeline, running between New South Wales and Queensland, is currently planned to supply gas to Metgasco’s Clarence Moreton Basin partner, CS Energy.

The MoU also covers the supply of coal seam gas (CSG), in excess of 15 petajoules per annum (PJ/a) from Metgasco’s Clarence Moreton basin operations to BP.

Metgasco has commenced route analysis, fatal flaw studies and regulatory processes. Prior to the MoU, the Casino to Ipswich pipeline was to be at least 140 km in length, dependent on route analysis. A spokesperson told Gas Today that the BP lateral may extend the pipeline by 80 km.

The spokesperson said that should the feasibility study be successful, construction for the pipeline is expected to commence in 2010 and finish in 2011.

This pipeline development will provide additional security of gas supply to Brisbane, which is currently the only capital city on the east coast of Australia supplied by a single gas pipeline and will relieve congestion on existing energy infrastructure to the Port of Brisbane.
