The sites being offered for sale are at Chandler in Brisbane and Molendinar, Reedy Creek, Arundel (Suntown) and Staplyton on the Gold Coast, and at Mornington and Wyndham in Victoria.

The sites are being offered as operational businesses. The sites collectively deliver around 1.77 million kilowatt hours of electricity a month generated from burning methane gas harnessed from landfill sites.

Included in the sale will be ‘green credits’ that are created as a result of the renewable energy status of landfill gas.

The decision by Energex has decided to sell its landfill gas assets following a strategic review of the company’s operation to focus on the distribution of electricity. Last year Energex sold its New Zealand operation to Northpower and in previous years has moved out of the retail gas and electricity markets and the reticulated natural gas network businesses.
