New CSG training centre furthers QLD skills investment

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has announced the opening of a specialised CSG and Gas Transmissions Pipeline Operations Training Centre at SkillsTech Australia’s Acacia Ridge Training Centre to combat skills shortages in the CSG sector.
The Australian-first partnership between Santos and SkillsTech Australia, Queensland’s largest trade and technician training TAFE institute, is valued at more than $A1 million.
SkillsTech Australia Institute Director Mary Campbell said “This partnership between the Santos GLNG Project and SkillsTech Australia will train up to 70 Queenslanders for the booming CSG sector. Today’s exciting announcement is a culmination of a long-standing working relationship we have with Santos."
Manufacturing Skills Queensland will provide more than $A600,000 for the partnership through the Skills Queensland Strategic Investment Fund, and the Queensland Government has committed more than $A200 million to the development of facilities at SkillsTech Australia to address skills shortages with more than $A162 million invested so far.
