HRL subsidiary, Dual Gas, will redesign its proposed power station at Morwell, Victoria – fuelled by a combination of syngas and natural gas – to meet new emissions standards.
Dual Gas has withdrawn its works approval application to the Victorian Environment Protection Authority (EPA) for the power station as a result of new carbon emissions limits imposed by the Victorian Government.
The Climate Change White Paper, Taking Action For Victoria's Future, was released in July 2010 and set a target emissions level of 0.8 tonnes of carbon dioxide per megawatt hour for new power stations.
One option that could be considered to cut emissions would be to adjust the mix of synthetic gas from coal and natural gas that is fed into the turbine.
An HRL spokeswoman said that the company will resubmit a plan to the EPA that complies with the new standards.
