NT gas fired power station gets Rolls Royce treatment
Thu, 1 April 2010
The Northern Territory’s Power and Water Corporation has signed a contract with Rolls Royce for the delivery of two new 45 megawatt gas turbines for its Channel Island Power Station, located approximately 10 kilometres south of Darwin.
The new Trent 60 aeroderivative turbines will increase the capacity of the Darwin-Katherine power system by almost 25 per cent.
Delivery of the turbines is expected within three months and they will be installed before the next wet season, when electricity demand in the area peaks.
The turbines are financed as part of a $120 million funding program announced by the Northern Territory Government to boost power generation in the state.
Channel Island Power Station’s seven turbines located at the site make it Power and Water’s largest power station.
