NWS Australia LNG President Peter Cleary said that the 20 year LNG contracts signed in 1985 between the NWS LNG sellers and their original customers in Japan had underpinned the development of LNG production and export facilities at the Karratha Gas Plant in Western Australia.

LNG exports to the Asia Pacific region have totalled more than 2,500 cargoes since 1989.

Currently, LNG from the NWS is sold to Japanese companies such as Tokyo Electric Power, Kansai Electric Power Company, Osaka Gas, Tokyo Gas and Tohoku Electric Power.
