Olympic Dam gas plant and pipeline receives EIS approval

The South Australian and Federal governments have approved the environmental impact statement (EIS) for BHP Billiton’s Olympic Dam Project, located in SA.
The project will require major new infrastructure including an onsite gas power plant and gas pipeline as part of the development of the new open-pit copper, uranium and gold mine.

The gas power plant will have a 600 megawatt capacity. The 400 km gas pipeline will have three routes and will connect to the Moomba gas hub.
