Origin Energy and Australian Worldwide Exploration (AWE) have discovered the presence of gas at the Redback South-1 exploration well in L11, located in the onshore northern Perth Basin, Western Australia.
Total depth of 3,934 m was reached after intersecting the Wagina sandstone reservoir, and preliminary samples indicate that the gas composition is similar to those seen in the nearby Beharra Springs Gas Field, located approximately 2 km northeast of the Beharra Springs Gas Plant.

The Redback South-1 well is currently being prepared for casing and completion, with further testing to be completed to determine the gas flow rate.
