The School of Petroleum Engineering at the University of New South Wales has opened a drilling rig training facility in Brisbane to train oil and gas industry workers under real-life conditions.
The National Drilling and Well Control Program at the Southbank Institute of Technology includes a $650,000 simulator which recreates the exact conditions workers experience on drilling platforms.
It will provide training and certification for more than 400 engineers and drilling rig professionals each year.
The facility was developed in collaboration with the Australian oil and gas industry in response to growing demand for skilled workers.
