North West Mechanical has been a family-run business in Karratha since 1998, employing six mechanics, an apprentice and three office staff, including Melanie Johnston, the daughter of owner Graeme Wann.
Mr Wann said “We’ve always supported the local community and local business, and actively help with the development of young people in the area who want to work in the mechanical industry. We even partner with the local high school and colleges to offer work placement to students. The investment from Sargent means we can continue this support and look at new ways of expanding the business during the huge growth we are seeing in Karratha.”
Sargent is an Australian-owned national company specialising in light and heavy commercial vehicle rental solutions.
Sargent National Sales and Marketing Manager Grant Harrison said “With the growth in mining, energy and infrastructure in this area, now is the right time to provide the much needed investment in mechanical support services.

With a presence in Perth and Newman already, adding Karratha to Sargent’s Western Australia network gives us a comprehensive footprint across the state. It’s a great result for both businesses and the community,” said Mr Harrison.
