Key to the amendment is the inclusion of direct fired air heaters, which did not previously fall under AS 4553-2008.

A spokesperson from Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association of Australia told Gas Today that the decrease in size of these units meant that they were increasingly being used in domestic situations. Their inclusion in the standard will help with controlling domestic usage of the heaters.

A new label for small direct fired air heaters is also included in the standard, again in response to their increased use in domestic settings.

The amendment also includes a new method for blocked flue testing.
