Swapping cards and shaking hands at the FutureGAS Brisbane networking drinks
Gas Today — August 2011
The second FutureGAS networking drinks event kicked off in Brisbane on 28 June, sponsored by CarterNewell Lawyers and Grant Thornton.
Over 70 delegates attended on the night, demonstrating how important it is for those in the industry to invest in face-time with their peers and the need for events such as these to facilitate networking opportunities. Drinks were held at the offices of co-sponsor Grant Thornton overlooking the Brisbane City Hall.
CarterNewell Partner Resources James Plumb addressed the crowd, and Grant Thornton Director of Taxation Peter Godber introduced the evenings guest speaker and concluded formalities.
Guest speaker for the evening Santos Legal Manager – QLD Jeremy Chenoweth, spoke about the gas industry’s relationship with the Queensland Government, and how the two can work together to make the sector profitable internationally and domestically.
Mr. Chenoweth’s background in construction law afforded valuable insight in terms of sustainable project growth and development, and the legal implications that follow.

Mr Chenoweth highlighted ways in which the industry could position itself as a leader in reform, and highlighted some areas of policy that the industry needs to address with the Queensland Government.
