FutureGAS 2011 concluded with a panel session and networking event for women in the gas industry, held at sponsor Deloitte’s offices from 6.30–8.30pm, which focused on how women might help meet looming skills shortages in the natural gas sector.
Four panellists from different sectors of the industry talked about their personal experiences as a woman in a traditionally male-dominated sector. Other topics discussed included strategies companies could employ to attract and keep more female workers, as well as various experiences of being accepted or not accepted among male co-workers.

Following the panel session, delegates had a chance to continue discussions in a more informal setting, enjoying refreshments on the balcony overlooking the Brisbane River. In addition to exchanging stories of working in the gas sector, discussions also covered broader industry issues such as the proposed carbon pricing framework, rapidly developing LNG projects in Queensland, and looming skills shortages.
