Maersk wins $420m Ichthys deal

INPEX Australia has awarded Maersk Drilling a contract at the Ichthys gas field, offshore Western Australia.
The three-year contract is expected to commence in the second quarter of 2020 and is for the use of the ultra-deepwater semi-submersible Maersk Deliverer rig.
The contract is valued at approximately US$300 million (A$421.65 million) and also includes two one-year options.
Maersk Drilling CEO Jorn Madesn said the company was pleased to have secured the agreement.
“INPEX-operated Ichthys LNG Project is one of Australia’s largest resources projects and we look forward to supporting a successful operation for INPEX and joint venture participants,” he said.
“With this contract award we retain a well-balanced forward coverage in the floater market with long-term contracts while maintaining exposure to a market recovery.”
The Maersk Deliverer is currently operating offshore Timor-Leste.
The Icthys LNG Project is expected to produce 8.9 million t/a of LNG, 1.7 million t of liquefied petroleum gas and about 100,000 bbl/d of condensate.
