The Department of Industry, Innovation and Science is undertaking a review of the safety regime for offshore oil and gas workers.
The department plans to replace the current regime – the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Safety) Regulations 2009 – in 2020 and will use this review to establish new parameters.
The regulations are applicable to offshore oil and gas and petroleum storage workers in Commonwealth waters.
To improve the regime, the policy changes and legislative amendments may be implemented and the department said it encourages all stakeholders to contribute to the review.
The period for public comment will be open until 23 July 2019, with the department to seek ministerial approval following the public consultation.
